Ever since its foundation in 1990, ESC Rennes has been developing internationally. The past twelve years its international dimension has gone from strength to strength. In 1994, ESC Rennes became officially recognized as the equivalent of a British University, thanks to its accreditation by the Open University. This gives the school the authority to award qualifications (B.A., M.A., M.B.A., PhD) of an international standard, in addition to the prestigious Sup de Co diploma. Every year, more than one in five of the students on campus come from outside France, half of these from outside Europe, while courses are taught mainly in English by teachers from all over the world - the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, India and many other countries. The added value of this is that it produces international profiles that answer a company's needs for internationalization. Learning to work with fellow students from different cultural backgrounds and meeting people from every continent are just part of the experience that is studying in Rennes. Although the business courses are generally taught in English there is also an opportunity to take some courses in French, and all international students study French Culture and Language as a part of their programme.
"The Rennes International School of Business was founded 12 years ago by a group of company managers in the Brittany area. Their aim was to train business managers with an international profile. From the outset, the specific positioning of the school was centered on the amalgamation of three fundamental dimensions: international, business and personal development of the student. Indeed, if the pedagogical plan of ESC Rennes is synchronized with the region's economic development, especially in terms of new technologies, and then it was already clear in 1990 that the school needed an international dimension. ESC Rennes is thus part of the internationalization of Brittany movement in cooperation with the Rennes Atalante Science Park and the many « grandes écoles » settled in the area such as INSA, Supélec… Each student goes abroad to study in one of our 120 partner universities to be found throughout the world and the foreign students ESC Rennes welcome each year make up over 20% of the student population. Since 1994, this positioning has been reinforced by the accreditation by the British Open University authorizing ESC Rennes to award double diplomas: as well as the Sup de Co diploma, every student may obtain a B.A.(Bachelor of Arts), an M.A.(Master of Arts), an M.B.A (Master in Business Administration) or a PhD (doctorate level in the Anglo-Saxon system).
Finally, following the Anglo-Saxon example, ESC Rennes wanted to put in place a system of active teaching centered on the learner becoming an active force in his or her own education. As part of the Pedagogy ESC Rennes call « Learning by Experience and Initiative », all the students join an association. This gives every one of them an extraordinary opportunity to show initiative and independence.
Besides the Sup de Co program and the different international programs, the Company Training department in ESC Rennes is at the disposal of companies and their employees to ensure they possess all the assets necessary to ongoing development, with a range of training courses and consultancy services. The Company Training department also covers the international dimension of the school with its courses at the Centre d'Etude des Langues (Language Center), its international collaborations, the Executive MBA and its relations with international companies.
In 2002, ESC Rennes is broadening its range of programs by creating two Specialized Master's, one in C.R.M. (Customer Relationship Management) and one in International Negotiation, which above all answer the needs of both French and foreign companies.
